Privacy Policy

The Rich Nobody Knows is a history and storytelling channel published by Ghetto-Genius Productions. This policy explains what data our publishing automation accesses through YouTube, what we do with an email address if you choose to give us one, and what we do and do not keep.

YouTube API Services

Our publishing automation uses YouTube API Services. By using services that rely on the YouTube API, you are also agreeing to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's own handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Limited Use of Google user data

In practice that commitment means all of the following.

• We use Google user data only to provide and improve the features it was granted for — publishing our episodes to our own channel, and reading our own channel's performance figures. Nothing is repurposed for anything else.
• We do not transfer Google user data to any other person, product or company, except where it is necessary to provide or improve those features, where the law requires it, or as part of a merger or acquisition — and in that last case only after notice and consent.
• No human reads Google user data. The data is handled entirely by our automation. A person would only ever look at it with explicit consent, where it is genuinely necessary for security or to comply with the law, or in an aggregated and anonymised form for internal operations.
• We never use Google user data for advertising. Not for serving ads, not for personalised, retargeted or interest-based advertising, and not for building advertising or marketing profiles of anyone.
• We do not use Google user data to train machine-learning or generative AI models, our own or anyone else's.

What our automation accesses

Access is granted by the owner of the Rich Nobody Knows channel through Google's standard OAuth consent screen, and is limited to these permissions:

• Uploading videos to our channel. Publishing a finished episode along with its title, description, tags, category and thumbnail image.
• Managing our own uploads. Setting whether an episode is private, unlisted, public or scheduled for a future date, and updating that afterwards.
• Reading our channel statistics. Subscriber count, total views and video count for our own channel.
• Reading our channel analytics. Aggregate performance for our own videos — views, estimated watch time, average view duration, and net subscribers gained over a period.

Why we access it

Two reasons, and no others. The upload permissions let us publish finished episodes without doing it by hand. The read permissions let us see how episodes actually performed, so decisions about what to make next are based on real figures rather than guesses.

What we store, and where

• An authorisation token. Held as an encrypted environment variable on our hosting provider so the automation can act on our own channel without a person signing in each time. It is never displayed on this website and never sent anywhere else.
• A record of our own uploads. For each published episode: the YouTube video id, its title, when it was uploaded and its visibility. This exists so the automation does not publish the same episode twice.
• A short-lived cache of our own statistics. Channel and video performance figures, held briefly to avoid repeatedly querying YouTube for the same numbers. It is aggregate data about our channel, not about individuals.

Everything above concerns our own channel. None of it identifies a viewer.

Our email list

Separately from anything above, you can subscribe to our newsletter. This is the only place we collect information that identifies you, and it only happens if you choose to hand it over.

• What we collect. Your email address, and your first name if you give one. Nothing else — we do not ask for a postal address, a phone number or a date of birth.
• How we collect it. Only when you enter it yourself, through a signup form on our site or through one of our agents during a conversation you started. We do not buy lists, scrape addresses, or add anyone who did not ask.
• What we use it for. Telling you when a new episode is out, when something new is published in the Fortune Files Anthology, and occasionally what we are working on. That is the whole list.

Unsubscribing, and how long we keep it

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately — you do not have to email us, explain yourself, or wait. We keep your address only for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it is removed from the active list, and MailerLite retains a suppression record so we cannot accidentally add you back. You can also write to us and ask for it to be deleted outright.

What we do not do

• We do not access, request or store data from any YouTube account other than our own.
• We do not collect personal information about viewers of our videos.
• We do not read individual viewer identities, watch histories or comments through the API.
• We do not sell, rent or trade any data, including your email address. Not to advertisers, not to brokers, not to anyone.
• We do not use the email list for anything except our own updates — no sponsored blasts, no passing it to a partner.
• We do not share this data with advertisers, brokers, or third parties, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
• We do not use this data to train machine-learning models.

Revoking access

Access granted to our automation can be reviewed and revoked at any time from Google's security settings page, which lists every application connected to a Google account. Revoking it immediately stops our automation from uploading or reading analytics.

Google's own privacy tools for data associated with a Google account are available at myaccount.google.com/privacy.

Retention

The upload record is kept for as long as the corresponding episodes remain published, because it is what prevents duplicate uploads. Cached statistics are transient and are refreshed or discarded within hours. If our authorisation is revoked, the stored token stops working and is removed.

Children

Some of our content is made for a general audience and some is designated as made-for-kids under YouTube's own rules. Where an episode is designated made-for-kids, YouTube restricts data collection on that video in line with applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website or our automation.

Changes to this policy

If what our automation accesses changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Material changes to how data is used will be reflected here before those changes take effect.
